Located on the street level of the shiny Disney Concert Hall, Patina is one of the easiest restaurants to find in downtown L.A. Just follow the glare to the corner of 2nd and Grand and wait to be seated. Everything about Patina is upscale, like the building that houses it, and though a palpable soullessness pervades the highly modern space, it’s hard to find fault with the menu. Items such as... more

Previously located in historic downtown, the cafe has moved to its new location inside the lobby at the San Clemente Inn. The restaurant is now an expansive space decorated in a beachy-surf theme in leui of the diner's former 1950's vibe, with tables and booths, and a view of the hotel's manicured lawn and pool area. The restaurant still serves its signature American diner-style menu of... more

Editorial Reviews from the web

Joachim Splichal's flagship Cal-French restaurant anchors the downtown renaissance.

In Short Following the design of the adjacent Disney Concert Hall, this dining room blends dramatic flair with simple lines. Waves flow through wood-paneled walls, soft yellow lights twinkle along the ceiling and earth tones punctuate everything from leather banquettes to servers' tailored suits. The traditional American cuisine ascends with French accents on everything from the daily... more

Christine and Joachim Splichal have created a restaurant empire and even a spa: everything top level. After many years on Melrose Avenue, where the clientele came en masse from Paramount Studios, the flagship location plays a different role downtown at L.A's too-cool Gehry-designed, deconstructed edifice, Walt Disney Concert Hall. Lunch is a busy time, and there is the pre- and post-theater... more

By far the worst restaurant I've been to in 40 years

We decided to have dinner at Patina because it was close to Dorothy Chandler. The manager upon noticing the very expensive Prada bag my friend was carrying made it his mission to dote on her the entire evening. He was arrogant, shallow and rude. Beyond his behavior, the food was not worth the price----tasteless, bland, forgettable. I ordered the New York Strip Pave---again forgettable. I'm... more

The appetizer we ordered they were out of, so they brought a substitution without even making us aware beforehand.

We ordered several different bottles of wine, and the waiter poured a new bottle over a different glass of wine.

No apologies, just utterly rude and incompetent service.

Went to Patina last night for a special occasion. We were a little concerned because of the recent poor reviews about the wait staff. Shouldn't have worried, our waiter Kevin was excellent. Very knowledgeable and accommodating. My wife wanted the tasting menu and I wanted to order off the regular menu. We have had problems with this in the past at other restaurants. Not a problem for Kevin. Not... more
