Palms Thai Restaurant

We were robbed, REALLY! Too bad we can

Review Rating
Food is ok, but not worth being held up!

Yes...my friend and I were robbed while sitting outside. There was even a security guard on duty, but he apparently was too busy to notice that a deranged crackhead had come into the patio area off of Hollywood Blvd. threatening us and demanding our money and cell phone batteries. The restaurant was packed, yet not one member of the incompetent staff thought it was odd that there was suddenly a new guest at our table counting a wad of freshly-stolen cash.

Looking back on the night, the fact that the waiter screwed up our order, then spent several minutes belligerently arguing and refusing to correct his mistake almost seems almost like a fond memory in comparison. (Although, it did seem a little tasteless when he brought it up again after we were robbed...)

Don't let the seemingly reasonable prices fool you. Dinner for two for all of the cash in our wallets and a couple of cell phone batteries hardly qualifies as a deal.

Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE

Cons: EVERYTHING, from the rude wait staff to the incompetant security system to the blah food

It's fun & it's cheap

This isn't going to be he best food you've ever tasted. But it's off-the-wall and the food is cheap.

A meal for 2, including appetizers and drinks cost $28.

Outstanding Selection of Thai Food

Palms Thai Restaurant has over a hundred exotic choices to eat. In addition to Pad Thai, Panang and all of the standard Thai fare, Palms has exotic choices such as wild boar, fried catfish, papaya pok pok, etc. The menu is huge, so you will definitely find something you want. It's great for parties, too, since Thai Elvis sings there!

When I ordered fried catfish salad in Bangkok, I got a tangy green mango salad sprinkled with crunchy golden crumbs. The crumbs were the fried catfish, and the combination with the cool salad was remarkable. I've found one version of this dish in Los Angeles that compares, at the Palms Thai Restaurant in Hollywood. It's wonderful. And so was everything I had along with it. There was thin-sliced... more

The Scene You are now entering the Thai-light Zone. In the heart of Thai Town, Palms is the home of the Thai Elvis (aka Kevin), complete with platform shoes and flashy Vegas suits. At first, he seems over-the-top kitsch, but a few songs later, you'll realize he's actually quite good. Thanks to him, what used to be a low-key Thai dinner club scene now attracts a number of Hollywood... more

Considerable crowds from the youthful upholders-of-irony brigade go bananas when Thai Elvis enters the restaurant. Make reservations for wild boar coconut curry and spicy deer in a tropical getaway. Some nights it's Thai Neil Diamond, which is pretty hot, too. Still, 1,000,000 red palms can't be wrong about the King of Palms Thai. Three menus. Be sure you get the one you understand least to... more

Palms Restaurant is home to the famous Thai Elvis . Frankly, I think hes a pain. I just want to eat my yummy authentic Thai dinner, and the entertainment, combined with the long family-style tables, lends a loud, chaotic carnival atmosphere to the restaurant. The food rocks though, and you have to try the palm juice . It tastes like drinking a sugar cookie. Amazing. It should be... more

Have you ever been sitting in a restaurant and could not get anyone to wait on you? Have you ever had to take out your cell phone, dial the restaurant, and ask them to send someone to your table as every member of the wait staff acted as if they could not see you?
Well, if you havent, please visit Palm Thai for a unique experience.

I really like the food -- can't wait to order the hot chili paste clams again! Service was good, except for a little mix up: server/ cook ended up making our spicy curry mild, and the mild silver noodle salad spicy. Nevertheless, the flavor was still great, so we didn't bother saying anything! The dessert was a little pricey, $5 for a couple pieces fried banana but they were AMAZING with... more

Every time i go to Palms I order only the Pad Thai noodles, Garlic beef and Fried rice. How can you screw that up? Really it's no big deal. If your looking for a quick asian food fix that's in-expensive, this place is for you. The service is absolutely, positvely, with out a doubt, undisputedly, hands down.....TERRIBLE! The waitresses and buss boys are rude and impersonal! I almost did not... more
