We had a great experience here. We had a combination of experienced and inexperienced shooters on this occasion. The staff made us all feel very welcome including the Brits that were with us. Two of us were former British Military and one was an ex Navy weapons expert, we know our weapons. The owners and staff demonstrated a high level of knowledge and safety. We would without
hesitation, recommed Palmetto Indoor Range to
anyone and when you do, say hi to
Beretta, she is a beautiful and much loved black lab.
All of these five star reviews are either a mistake by people intending to write a review about Palmetto State Shooting Center or were written by the owner of Palmetto Indoor Range, Ed Soto. There was nothing friendly about Mr. Soto. In fact, he is perhaps the rudest, most arrogant person I have ever met. I waited for service for over 15 minutes while he had a very loud and inappropriate conversation regarding one of his female customers. When my presence was finally acknowledged and my money taken, Mr. Soto disappeared again, leaving me to orient myself to the facility.
Although I will admit the sales floor was reasonably neat and presentable, the range itself was dirty and poorly maintained. The range equipment is old and lead filled smoke from the few shooters who were there hung in the air as testimony to an inefficient, inadequate air handling system. Repeat business did not seem to be a phenomenon that Mr. Soto experiences as I found myself helping a couple of gentlemen figure out how to tuen on the range equipment. Additionally, Mr. Soto's prices are higher than his competition's. Memberships are more expensive at Palmetto Indoor Range and even members have to pay an hourly fee. This is not the the case at Palmetto State Shooting Center where walk-in rates are lower and there are no additional fees for members.
In conclusion, one should ask themselves why drive farther and pay more to shoot at a poorly run, unkept facility owned by someone who is clearly a legend in their own mind. If you are still undecided as to which indoor shooting facility you should visit, just ask the Hardeeville PD. They leave town to shoot and train at Palmetto State Shooting Center.
Oh yea...and Beretta the Lab is pretty severely overweight. Mr. Soto should take better care of his dog!
Best shooting range I have ever been to, and now they are getting auto rifles. I like the fact that they can video tape you or your family shooting, so you can have something to remember it by. Their prices are the best around! Why are they listed twice on this site? The other one has the location wrong on the map!
