What the community has to say about Ottimista Enoteca-Café

Information about this business (4)

Our mission is simple, and two-fold: 1), share our passion and enjoyment of wine, and remove the intimidation factor that often surrounds it; and 2), introduce Bay Area customers to the wide range of high-quality Italian wines, particularly the little-known but truly excellent wines that hail from Northern Italy. Ottimista was designed to create a low-key environment for everyone, regardless of...

Playfully bestowed with the Italian word for "optimist" - that is, one who always believes that the glass is half full ...

Ottimista Enoteca-Café is a restaurant and wine bar that brings the Italian enoteca tradition to San Francisco's Cow Hollow neighborhood. The casual, rustic venue gets its name from the Italian translation for Optimist, because we believe that when it comes to good wine, one's glass should always be at least half-full. The restaurant features a seasonal menu of Italian-inspired small bites and...

Did I expect more? I did. After reading most of the reviews I was expecting elegant, cozy place with good food. Not a chance. Outside seats are so uncomfortable that if it wouldn't be for a very warm weather that evening I would definitely seat inside. It has an atmosphere of a sports bar with desperation to blend the Italian...

Great italian menu, nice wine list. Recently changed owners but the new management has thus far maintained the great aspects of this classic eatery

NB: In mid-2012 the ownership of Ottimista has changed; remains to be seen if it shapes up. Was so successful it has spawned imitators unable to match it's carefully prepared delicacies and an Italian wine selection that is magnifico. Exceptionally welcoming & warm ambience; unlike neighboring "jock" bars, has been a place where young women can happily relax and talk without straining their...
