Original Tommy's

A Los Angeles Tradition

Review Rating
Tommy's is as synonymous with Los Angeles as entertainment is to Hollywood.

As an LA native, I remember pulling up to the original shack at Beverly and Rampart for a Chili Cheeseburger or a Chili Dog, and pulling a bottle of Pepsi out of the cooler. The whole family would wait in line, place our order, and stand at the counters in the parking lot enjoying the experience. The perfect follow-up to a Dodger game!

In a town that is so spread out and disconnected, Tommy's is one of the few things that fellow Los Angeles natives can share.

Pink's has become more of a tourist trap and is nothing like what it was when I was a kid. In-N-Out makes a delicious burger, but if you want a true LA experience, get yourself to the shack at Beverly and Rampart.

God Bless Tommy Koulax, and Go Dodgers!

That's my two-cents anyway.

Considering LA's health-conscious eating habits, why is it that our favorite foods involve heaps of greasy chili?

Can a burger melt in your mouth? Tommy's comes close, and there's no denying the likelihood of it melting onto your shirt and pants as well. At this original LA stand, the chili burger is king. And not much has changed in more than 50 years of... more

The Scene The original Original Tommy's is a far cry from the sanitized, white-tile chain it spawned. The kitchen is a shack, the dining room is a parking lot, and Angelenos couldn't be happier. At any hour of the day or night, expect to find folks from all walks of life wiping their satisfied mugs with paper towels from dispensers located every two feet along the outdoor stand-up... more

Since 46, beloved burgers burdened with a thick deposit of Tommy's trademark chili. Drunks usually love it while the picky leave it alone. Can get messy, so tell the ladler one scoop, with a suitcase of napkins to go. Crowd is heavily Love and Rockets —the sophisticated alt-vato graphic novel, not the pasty Goth band. Open 24 hours, long line goes fast, with occasional flashes of... more

I eat here A LOT.

Put it this way...we go to Tommy's after every USC victory.

There's nothing better than a Tommy's burger after a game, spending time with our fellow Trojan Family. There's usually a pretty long line, but it's so worth it. It's under 5 bucks for a burger, fries, and a drink. Don't bother to get chili fries because you can always dip them in the chili from your burger.

I have been coming here since I was a teenager. I stop by at least once a month to help "last nite's" hangover or as a pit stop after a long nite out. I get the chiliburger with a huge side of peppers. not the healthiest meal but so satisfying.
