Unreasonable contract terms and handbook rules

When I signed the school contract, I was not aware of the many unreasonable terms stated in the school handbook. The school did not give me the handbook until I paid the tuition and fees in full and signed the contract. Many rules in the handbooks do appear in the contract. For example, if you withdraw one of your children before the end of the kindergarten year, all the siblings of the withdrawn child will be expelled! Also, the handbook mentions many times that if a parent or a child show "uncooperative behavior" with the school, then they will immediately kick you out! And it is up to them to define "uncooperative behavior". These terms are simply unreasonable.

Extremely Poor School

This is an extremely-poor school! My son once was enrolled in this school and suffered a lot from it. Instead of motivating my son to engage in classroom learning, the teachers arranged him to ride tricycle outside most of the time every day. So he was often left out from his peers and was just remotely overseen by the teaching assistant. He has learned nothing from the school at all. The mandatory donation requirement is not reasonable. The school should change it to a voluntary donation. Otherwise, why don't they simply put this amount as part of the tuition? The school also requires every parent to pay three months' tuitions in advance (current month, next month, and last month), not including the work donation, compulsory donation, and many miscellaneous fees. This school cares more about your money than your children!!

Great School with Caring Faculty

My children have attended One World Montessori for 5 years and after reading the negative review of the school left on this board, I question whether these parents had children enrolled in the same school. The comment about systematically forcing boys to drop out is laughable at best! I am a parent of a son who is welcomed every day with open arms, and so are his male friends (of which there are many).

Most of the day at One World is spent indoors doing work, either in small groups or independently, or participating in other group activities or special events. Classroom work is child-directed, which encourages independence and fosters self-esteem. The peace curriculum is a unique component to the school, and teaches the children to resolve conflicts peacefully and cooperatively. The teachers are all Montessori trained and use Montessori materials and teaching methods, and are very skilled, caring, and nurturing. I truly believe that the education my children have received at One World have helped shape them into more compassionate, understanding, and tolerant members of society.

Yes, it is true that there is a mandatory donation to the school, but you can also fulfill this donation by purchasing tickets to their annual wine and cheese tasting fundraiser and auction. It’s a wonderful event and gives the parents a chance to socialize with one another away from the school. The donation and other fees are clearly indicated in the parent handbook, which every family must read before enrolling their children, so shame on any parent who enrolls their children and then complains how unreasonable these charges are. If these disgruntled parents were not happy with this “unreasonable” donation or any of the other fees, they should have enrolled their children elsewhere. They certainly knew about these charges before enrolling their children – there are no hidden fees at this school.

Overall, we are very pleased with the education our children have received at One World and will continue to keep them at the school.

A Terrible Preschool !!!

My wife and I regret sending our children to OneWorld. The policy of OneWorld is so rigid that they require every family to donate to the school a fixed amount of $200 per year or risk expelling. The teachers seldom talk with us about our children's progress. My children do craft often but there is little academic work taught by the teachers. And when they do occasionally, they have no systematic strategy to teach the children. They start with teaching multiplication before teaching addition. My son is active (but never hurt any one nor damage any property) but they forced us to change him from a full-day schedule to a half-day schedule (which screwed up our whole family's plan). We had no choice but put him on a half-day schedule, but then OneWorld refused to refund the difference between the more expensive full-day tuition deposit and half-day tuition. You will find that they have many more girls than boys, because they systematically force boys' parents to drop out of school. The accountant (Liz Jarome) and school directress (Rebecca Keith) are rude and reluctant to communicate with parents. You can read their contract document and handbook and then you will find that they are full of unreasonable and restrictive terms. We strongly feel that our rights are deprived!! Please read these documents before deciding on it!! ... They will also verbally force you to commit to their entire K-6 years in addition to just signing a one-year contract. The secretary, Pascale, is an extremely rigid person. Also, the facilities are extremely old and poor for children. My recommendation: DON'T SEND YOUR KIDS TO ONEWORLD BECAUSE IT IS NOT A TRUE MONTESSORI SCHOOL!! THE UNNECESSARILY RIGID PHILOSOPHY OF THE SCHOOL DIRECTRESS AND STAFF REFLECTS A SERIOUS DEVIATION FROM MARIA MONTESSORI'S ORIGINAL PHILOSOPHY. Both my wife and I have high education training (MA and PhD) and agree that OneWorld is the most terrible school we have ever encountered.
