That chunk of change you got back back from your five-dollar bill will fit nicely in the jukebox, which stocks Buzzcocks, Merle Haggard and Dean Martin along with indie-rock bands of the moment. It's a diverse and convivial clientele who've made O'Connor's their home, especially on weeknights, when only the ample outer-borough cockroaches will fight you for your barstool.

Both the hard-scrabbled and the hip have a home at O'Connor's, located on the outskirts of Park Slope since 1931 and still in the namesake family's hands. The biggest change this place has seen in the past twenty years came in 2000, when drink prices went up by 50 cents (leaving most still around three bucks a pop). The drink list is yellowing, the wooden booths faded and worn, but they've got... more

O'Connor's knows what it's like to be in a 4am-bars-are-closing pinch--that's why they sell six-packs of Bud to-go.

Editorial Reviews from the web

This friendly Park Slope Irish bar has been pouring pints since before Prohibition--with prices that recall that era.

The Scene This is not your father's bar--this is your grandfather's bar. Heck, it might even have been your great-grandfather's bar. But peer across the darkened, chip-tiled and tin-ceilinged room: That cute hipster in the high-backed booth is certainly not your great-grandmother, nor is her shag-haired companion in slim corduroys any kind of senior citizen. Classic old man's bar although the clientele was fairly young, mainly men watching the baseball games. Prices are cheap, $3.00 for domestic bottles. Jukebox is a mix of older country, bluegrass and 60's pop. There are 2 tv's, on each end of the bar. Not much else to do here but drink and watch the world go by. Not many bars like this left.

I've beencoming her for years, with different guys and girls. The excelellent bartender knows how to be discreet, if y'know what I mean, and always remembers my drink. The guys are cute here, and the girls are real-and whether I'm dressed like a hoochie mama or in my gym clothes- nobody makes me feel uncomfortable.

Pros

+ great bartenders, cheap, comfortable

This is THE BAR. It's just a bar folks. Nothing to get all dolled up for- but if you wanna meet new folks, or just stare at the walls, you're welcome here. Funny to find young sober bartenders when yer expecting Popeye- but I love this place for being exactly what it is.

Pros

+ comfy, cheap, easy

Cons

- car service?
