The restaurant, on the 12th floor of the store I will probably call Dayton’s until my dying day, opened for business on Oct. 2, 1947, part of a major expansion of the now-landmark building. While the store around it has gone through countless alterations in the intervening decades, the Oak Grill seems to quietly, implacably endure, a true classic.

On a suggestion from a friend that frequents this establishment, my wife and I visited the Oak Grill before going to see the musical Sweeny Todd which was playing a block away at the State Theater, so needless to say that the Oak Grill was conveniently located for us to walk.

The Oak Grill remains a secret to so many people, which is a blessing and a shame. A shame for those missing out on exquisite cuisine and a blessing because fellow patrons and myself don't have wait forever for a table.
Gourmet food, wonderful atmosphere, and excellent servers together make for a scrumptious lunch or romantic dinner, or a romantic lunch or scrumptious dinner.
