The origins of the club began just prior to 1920, when two residents of Newport, Bob Gould and Sid Rollins, grew tired of making the 10-mile trek to Claremont to play golf. Gould and Rollins believed that their town should have its own course and thus assembled a group of like-minded individuals to create the Newport Golf Club.
Our golf group of 36 players held a golf tournament at Newport Golf Club on 5/6/17. It was a horrible experience from the start. Management never set up the golf carts for the group so that everyone knew where they were starting. It created a lot of confusion as players had to go to the desk to look for their card. The carts were not cleaned - looked like they were just parked from the day...
It's bad.
Grew up playing this course. Worked here in high school. Well taken care of, beautiful views, great staff and owners. Fun course to play
I played my first round there 2 weeks ago. Great layout! Not your typical open 9 closed nine. Challenging but not out of the average regular golfers reach. My only neg comment was the shape of several bunkers. No sand in some, just loan and weeds. Some were clear of weeds but like clay. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt though. Maybe they are in the midst of bringing the course back.
