Editorial reviews from the web (3)

Talking about the weather is not boring at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, where the hands-on exhibits, video presentation, and one-hour tour fires up kids' enthusiasm for what falls out of the sky. The architect I.M. Pei's distinctive buildings stand majestically on a mesa at the base of the mountains, where you can see mule deer and other wildlife. After browsing the field...

A bit like a junior-high science fair all grown up, this is where some of the nation's top scientists study global warming, wind shear and other acts of nature. It's located high on a bluff, tucked against the Flatirons overlooking Boulder. Youngsters will by enthralled by hands-on exhibits, learn about natural phenomena like lightning and tornadoes and get up close with an interactive model of the sun or the online weather kiosk.

Inspired by the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park, I. M. Pei designed this striking pink-sandstone building, which overlooks Boulder from high atop Table Mesa in the southwestern foothills. (You might recognize the center from Woody Allen’s Sleeper; scenes were shot here.) Scientists study such phenomena as the greenhouse effect, wind shear, and ozone depletion to gain a better...
