Nathanael Greene, the general and the person, deserves a much higher level of recognition than he receives. While recognizing that this is a very old "historic" home, sadly both the state of RI and town of Coventry fail to provide visitors with a worthwhile experience. Without a reliable GPS, finding the home is difficult, it sits in a residential neighborhood...

We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon, and although they weren't prepared for visitors, they opened up and gave us a full tour. It appears that they are still working on restoration and developing the tour, but they tell a great story! It was well worth the time and the $5 entry fee. Make sure you stop in and learn...

General Nathanael Greene Homestead is a registered historic place known as Spell Hall and a museum. The building was the home of Revolutionary War general Nathaneal Greene from 1770 to 1776.

Visit the home originally known as “Spell Hall” that Nathanael Greene built in 1770 . The home remained in the Greene family until the death of General Greene’s grand-niece, Elizabeth Margaret (Greene) Warner. The homestead was later purchased by the Nathanael Greene Association in 1919, and the it was declared a historic landmark in 1972.
