Utsuwa (serving plates). I do not think that plates are just objects that serve food. Traditionally, there are different types of plates used in serving Japanese cuisine--china, porcelain, lacquer, glass, silverware, ironware, bamboo--they are used according to the seasons. Although Los Angeles is not known for its seasons, we here at Mori Sushi believe that we can bring out the best in the...

Mori Sushi Restaurant Review

Chef Morihiro Onodera, the namesake behind Mori Sushi in West L.A., may no longer be part of the picture but his purist principles are carried on by owner Masanori "Maru" Nagano, who has been with the restaurant since the beginning. Rice paper lanterns glow overhead in this minimalist space with a sushi bar and blonde wood tables. Mori's beautiful hand-crafted plates are also still part of the...

The Best Sushi Restaurants in Los Angeles, Winter 2014

As a major world city, Los Angeles has a number of culinary specialties, with none more impressive than its dedication and obsession with sushi, the Japanese specialty that first found its way into America in the 1960s. One of those original restaurants still operates in Little Tokyo, and since then there's been an a incredible proliferation of sushi and kaiseki places that range from...

Omakase at its finest!! Amazing quality sushi, fairly priced, small and quaint like all Japanese sushi places should feel like, and amazing chef. Each bite spoke for itself, and really blew my taste buds out of the water. Will be back soon!

This is a small modestly decorated place with a very talented sushi chef. We went and ordered omakase, the chef's choice menu. He served some items I would not have thought to try but was glad I did. This is often rated some of the best sushi in Los Angeles.

Non-Smoking Area, Fine Dining, Dress Code-Casual

Nigiri, Maki, Temaki and all things succulent and juicy are tossed up at Mori's. Besides the popular sushi served up, the talent of chefs Morihiro Onodera and Hiroyuki Taniguchi extends to hand-crafting some of the very plates you are served in! They are very particular about the plates, which are decided upon in accordance with the season, although LA is not exactly known for its extreme...

Tips about this business (4) view all

What to Drink: There is no wine list--red or white by the glass is all they've got. Opt for sake instead.

Know Before You Go: Minimalism reaches new heights; the words "Mori Sushi" don't even appear on the sign outside. Look instead for the outlined sketch of a fish.
