Don't be fooled by Moonshine’s well-worn, salty-dog atmosphere: The honky-tonk saloon opened in 2004 when owner Nick Forlano bought up the... more

The Scene This homey, wood-paneled dive looks like it was airlifted from a sleepy Southern town and plopped down upon Brooklyn's outer reaches. A friendly bartender offers some of the cheapest brews in the city, and the liquor cabinet is stocked for shots. A pair of bulldogs patrol the joint and an old-fashioned Pabst plaque suggests to the mostly male clientele, "Next time, bring... more

If you are looking to go somewhere cmpletely unpretencious, comfortable and want a guaranteed good time this is the place. The drinks are cheap and simple and the people are there to chat and have a good time. There is no sleaze factor, no pick up joint feel to this place just a nice welcoming vibe. It's a plus if you like country music but even if you don't you will enjoy yourself. I've taken... more

Moonshine is unspoiled Brooklyn. Cheap beer, a BBQ grill and dog friendly -- what more can you ask for? Friendly bartenders and an interesting crowd keep this out of the way spot top of mind for us. And the remote location ensures it'll stay that way.

Pros

+ Cheap beer, great jukebox, dog friendly, outdoor area, free peanuts

Cons

- Clientele can get a little iffy late at night

This is a great neighborhood bar. The beers are cheap, the staff is friendly, and there's a pretty big patio out back for when the weather's nice. $5 gets you a bucket of PBRs! It's a little bit of a hike from the subway, but that's probably one of the things that lets it keep that neighborhood feel.

Pros

+ cheap drinks, friendly crowd

Cons

- kind of far from the subway
