Ferret abuse
Ever wonder why the store ferret bites and yours does not?
I have been a customer at the Monster Pets store in South Philly for over four years. During my last visit in July 2008, I complained to the staff (not the first time) about the ferrets not having had any water or food. There were close to twenty ferrets in a tank. The tank had two water bottles, but one was empty and the other one was laying down on the bottom of the tank. One person said that the tank/cage had to be cleaned first, only then would the pets be given water. After persisting interventions to employees, including the manager, someone decided to give one bottle to the pets. The ferrets started running over one another in order to get access to the water; all of them wanted to drink at the same time, making it impossible. The seen was horrible. I was under the impression that the pets have not had any water for hours! There was no trace of food anywhere either. I call it ABUSE! Animals need to have access to water all the time. Having seen and experienced all that... if I were a ferret, I would have no choice but bite.

The puppies were covered in fecal matter
I went into Monster Pets and was pretty impressed by the stuff they had. I was going to get a dog bed. Then I went to look at the puppies. OH MY GOSH! So expensive and so dirty! One puppy was sitting his own fecal matter. It was sad. A few of the puppies looked like they were very weak and sick. The people that work their seem nice but I just can't go in there ever again and look at those puppies.

Do not shop here. They sell puppy mill dogs that are kept in dirty wire-floored enclosures. Go to a responsible breeder or better yet a rescue if you want a dog, but don't buy one here. I'll buy my supplies elsewhere rather than support this deplorable practice.

I know many people who work here, and this place is sad! There dogs come from puppymills dont make any mistake about it! Their small animals live crammed together in small cages! it disgusting, and inhumane.
Sure they have a decent selection of supplies, but I would rather go a little bit out of my way then be a part of the cruelty the animals experience living in the conditions at monster pets.

I have 2 cats and 2 cocker spaniels (all rescued from shelters, thank you) and a 50 gallon aquarium, so my needs are quite extensive. I spend an average of $175/month on pet supplies and I always go to Monster Pets. If you compare the prices to those of Petsmart or another big box store, you'll see why. The prices are about 25% lower.
