Business Description from the Web
This is a good place for the white- and blue-collar types to mix and match, and has been for many years. A roadhouse atmosphere and a distribution of antiques add a casual and down-to-earth air, a real escape from the weekday grind for all the Loop workers who flock here during lunch. Try the Monkburger or the other lunch staples. Prices are moderate.
Another hidden lunch spot for business folks in the loop--and a great place to grab a post-work drink.
Tips About This Business
Be forewarned: If you ask for medium-rare, you're burger will be quite pink in the middle.
For the noon lunch rush, it gets packed--but the wait for a table never is still never more than a couple of minutes. And after 1pm or so, the place clears out, so you'll have plenty of room to stretch out and relax.
Expect a multitude of choices--from a half-dozen cheeses on your burger to straight or curly fries.
Editorial Reviews from the web
The Scene It's dark and wood-paneled, with a long bar and plenty of closely bunched tables and booths. Servers, many of whom have been here for a long while, are very friendly--even when faced with the lunch rush. A nice selection of draft beer is available, along with a full bar. The Draw Burgers, sandwiches and salads dot the menu. Don't expect anything...

Monk's doesn't try to impress you. Essentially a beer-and-burgers joint that just happens to be in the Loop, you are welcome to take or leave its offerings, they couldn't care less. But judging by the overflowing lunch crowds, many an office worker seeks refuge from the daily grind in this dark and noisy chapel to the absence of pretentiousness. The menu focuses squarely on hamburgers in a...

Warning to people with peanut allergies: Stay away from Monk's. The empty shells on the floor alone are enough to choke an elephant. The look here is a bizarre hodgepodge of Barvarian monastery meets Hollywood memorabilia convention. The evening crowd, however, isn't really the type to kvetch about interior design. A mix of blue collar, white collar and no collar, they're happy to contemplate...

Other Reviews from the web
I've had a few experiences w/ Monk's and would highly recommend it as a good place to go after work for a few drinks w/ co-workers. Drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is casual and warm. There are a few nitches to hide-away in as well if that's what you're looking for. The food, well, decent in my opinion but worth having, just don't expect extraordinary.

I look this pub! The food is great, the drinks are smooth, the waitresses aren't rude and the peanuts are fresh. Great place to hang out after work. Make sure not to where your best shoes, though. The peanut shells on the floor can be a bit overwhelming!
Stop at this place every now and then for lunch, and although the pub boasts the best burger in Chicago, it is far from it. Food in general is not what would get me in the door - its the setting that is so original about the place. Once you're inside, you dont know if you're in Chicago or Prague. Neat place for a quick bite, nothing for a first date.
