Try it once and you will "return again and again" promise patrons of this "quality" Wicker Park Japanese delivering "excellent", "inventive" sushi plus other "flavorful preparations" to go along with the "snazzy sake, wine and cocktail options"; solid service and a "cool, trendy ambiance" make it a "good date spot", so if a few find tabs "steep", many don't notice, noting they could "eat here...

Mirai Sushi Restaurant Review

This is a funky --- and fun --- place for sushi and saké. About a half-dozen chefs can be found hard at their task at any given time, and there's a vast selection of sushi and appetizers, from spicy lettuce wraps to gyoza ravioli, otoro, mirugai and sakana carpaccio with tuna, salmon, whitefish or octopus with cilantro, capers and sesame oil. Entrées are limited, but we recommend the teriyaki...

Fashionistas and their male counterparts line up for tables arranged in such close proximity that a Tetris champion must have laid them out. At some point, your elbow will interlock with your neighbor's, which may make for a slightly more authentic Japanese sushi-ya experience, but can be off-putting for Midwesterners who revere their personal space. The specials are amazing, usually featuring...

Blending a serious devotion to sushi and sake with a decidedly youthful, funky-chic ambience, Mirai is a hot destination for cold raw fish (though it serves other Japanese fare as well). The futuristic second-floor lounge is the hippest place in town to slurp down sushi, chilled sakes, and "red ones," the house cocktail of vodka with passion fruit, lime, and cranberry juices. The bright...

Mirai was a nice surprise. We stopped in on a Saturday night without a reservation and got seats at the sushi bar. Service was excellent. The maki rolls were great. Very fresh. Nice combination of flavors. The tuna nagiri was awesome. Definitely worth a visit.

Mirai Sushi was a surprise and delight. We were expecting a local sushi restaurant and were presented with a world class establishment. The owner went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed every dish. The sauces used were addicting and the fish was some of...

Trying to do too much

I'd expect a place with sushi in its name to have a broader range of sushi offerings--interesting fish, unusual maki rolls, etc. Instead, the sushi is pretty basic. The nigiri were generally good and fresh, but the maki rolls were surprisingly skimpy on fish content....

Top quality sushi, reasonably priced

They have incredibly fresh fish with some really hard to find sushi. Service is great and prices are very reasonably for the high quality.

Entrees include seared tuna steak, steamed white fish, tempura, and steak. Sushi specialties include sashimi (kihada, hamachi, ebi); maki mono (futo, california roll, tuna roll). Appetizers deserve special note: the Kani Nigiri and Maguronuta are excellent. Recommended martini: the Sake Martini, with blue cheese olives. Menu changes daily; check out the cool lounge upstairs. What to Drink: The varied sake list is user-friendly. And there's always the popular Red One martini, a tart house drink of fresh passion fruit, lime and cranberry juices, plus vodka, made smooth with a rim of powdered sugar.
