Mira Sushi & Izakaya Restaurant Review

An izakaya is a Japanese tavern, something akin to the English or American gastropub. Executive chef Brian J. Tsao and head sushi chef Owen Wu have taken the concept to a whole new level at Mira Sushi & Izakaya, fusing unlikely flavors and blending American and Japanese comfort food. Take, for example, the dripping-with-juice bulgogi beef enveloped in a fried wonton “taco,” or the spicy tuna...

Name should give you some indication of the versatility here. Chef is Chinese-Korean, brings pan-Asian knowhow to continent-spanning menu. Izakaya faves like gyoza and yakitori joined by honey yuzu chicken wings, crunchy Sloppy Joes on Hawaiian buns. Bering land bridge lives on in bulgogi tacos, made with wonton skins. On the sushi side, a former Nobu 57 hand works up both classic and...

Andy Lee, who owns several Asian restaurants in Flushing, Queens, has hired Leo Forneas, who worked at Buddakan, among other places, to be the executive chef for a dining room that tweaks comfort food icons with tastes of Asia, like using Korean rice cakes in place of pasta in the macaroni and cheese and making egg rolls with duck. The restaurant, done in light walnut, has a wood oven. —...

Silk Rd Tavern Restaurant Review

Pan-Asian comfort food? You bet. Welcome to Silk Rd Tavern, a Flatiron District eatery that boasts an inspired cocktail list (Thai margarita, anyone?) and a menu that fuses familiar American dishes and Asian classics. Mac ‘n’ cheese, for example, melts Vermont cheddar over rice cakes to palate tingling effect. The duck egg roll is stuffed with foie gras and it’s so good you’ll want to order two...

Silk Rd road-trip puts pan-Asian twists on classic American comfort foods. Creative mash-ups like Everything Egg Rolls with duck and foie gras, mac ‘n’ cheese with Korean rice cakes, and Vermont cheddar. Potpies upgrade pub grub, combine blue crab, black bean, and Singapore chili. Walnut wood paneling and hand-blown chandeliers for both rustic and elegant effects. Silk hanging from the walls...

I love Mira Sushi - the one thing that I am never a huge fan of is the noise level - specifically the loud vibrating bass of the music. Otherwise the sushi is alway fresh and the small plates very creative and delicious. PLEASE add the rice bowls back on the dinner menu!!

Way too expensive for not nice cuts of fish and the worst sushi rice we've ever had!

Food and ambiance excellent . Would definately return. Our first waitress was cold and got our order wrong. Then Mark took over and was excellent!

The sushi and tuna pizza were delicious. We were going to a show at the metropolitan room. This was a great choice a few doors down.

Inhabiting the Chelsea space that once housed upscale Allegretti, this much more casual Pan-Asian joint takes its inspiration from a number of countries (Thailand, China, Vietnam), resulting in a diverse, midpriced comfort menu with American accents; pub-height tables and a small bar in front are ideal for quick meals, while a bustling brown-hued dining room includes a large round table in back...
