What the community has to say about Menil Collection

Information about this business (4)

Because our heritage and manufacturing styles are European. Our recipes and techniques are based in Old World methods of making fine chocolates. Primarily this means using extremely high quality ingredients and lots of handwork. Regarding our heritage says Mr. Morgen, "I learned to make chocolates in The Hague, Netherlands, under a classic apprenticeship arrangement. I exchanged my labor for...

The Menil Collection is a unique museum environment located in the Montrose-area Museum District housing the collection of John and Dominique de Menil. The museum building is the centerpiece of a neighborhood featuring satellite gallery spaces and related cultural institutions set in a parklike setting.

One of the greatest private art collections in the U.S. features such surrealist works as those by Salvador Dali and Max Ernst, and offers visitors a sign-free and simply-designed environment in which to experience the art in a more personal way. The main building is accompanied by four satellite buildings.

Outstanding collection of 20th century art

Average Rating
100

This small museum houses a very impressive collection of masterpieces of 20th century art, to include works by Magritte, Miro, de Chirico, Warhol, and many others. The park-like setting is an oasis of tranquility in a large and hectic city. The adjacent Rothko chapel is also worth a visit. Furthermore, admission is free (although a donation is suggested). A "must-see"...

What happened to this place? It used to be so cool. I took my kids there today. Soon as we got there the people were rude. Following us everywhere. It is rediculous one guy even told my little girl not to point. And this lady yelled at them for nothing. And this other guy told us to leave. I have...

Business description (6) view all

Named after Dominque Menil, one of the greatest art collectors of the 20th Century, the Menil Collection is impressive. It houses an enormous private collection where the artwork is rotated because it is too large to show at once. Most of the collection is of modern works with an emphasis on surrealism, but African art and works from the Byzantine period are also displayed.
