Interesting cultural history and beautiful views worth visiting. If you are a shopper, you'll really enjoy their giftshop.
Last stop on our trip. We used our online coupon to save. Staff was very friendly. We explored all the museum, shop and the replicated ruins. We bought a music CD of Indian flute music that was playing in the shop. Very nice. Lots of history throughout the museum.
Glad we stopped.
Spent a couple hours here on our recent trip to Colorado Springs. The cliff dwellings were partially reconstructed in around 1907. The multi-story pueblo is from turn the century 1898. Lots of souvenirs. You can clamber all over the site adpnd get a real feel for life on the cliff. Interesting museum areas. Easy access to the location but not...
I expected more dwellings and maybe in a little better shape, but it was very interesting to see and imagine people living in the rocks/dwellings. The rest of the location is many shops and artifacts. It doesn't take long to go through everything - maybe an hour if the crowds are low.
These are actual cliff dwellings that Native Americans lived in hundreds of years ago! And they have been structurally supported enough that you can walk around/climb them! Very cool!
Enjoy a self-guided tour through the ruins, three museum and a gift shop. Experience grinding corn with a mano and metate. Other native homes on sight include a modern day peublo and a tipi/teepee.
Since 1907, visitors have experienced the culture of the Anasazi Indians (1100-1300 AD) at the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. You can explore several rooms of the 3-story "Pueblo" structure built right into the cliff, and walk through the indoor exhibits of murals, drawings, and depictions of Indian life. Also features Native American dances in June, July, and August.
