What the community has to say about Maitland Art Ctr

Information about this business (5)

The Art & History Museums- Maitland (A&H ) is a premier Central Florida cultural destination and community gathering place. We offer five museums within a mile of one another, and enjoy all that we have to offer.

The Maitland Art Center was founded as an art colony (called the Research Studio) in 1938 by visionary American artist and architect André Smith (1880-1959).

Museums are the repository of the cultural creations of all artists. The Maitland Art Center collects—works by the founder, André Smith, the Bok Fellows, those artists who were invited by André Smith to live and produce here, and the works of established and emerging contemporary local, regional and national artists. MAC also collects works that relate to those above, often purchased or...

The Maitland Art Center has the Mayan architecture that is part of Maitland. The gardens are just beautiful and a wonderful place to hold weddings. Seeing the individual art studios on the grounds makes me wish I was an artist and I could rent one of the studios. It is an absolutely beautiful piece of property and the exhibits are...

Interesting and pretty

My father and I visited the history museum, the telephone museum and part of the garden area. The history museum was very small, but had some pretty interesting facts. The Garden area was beautiful! We didn't see everything but still loved it. We were the only ones there at the time, so it was very peaceful. The telephone museum had...

A gem of architecture

Visiting the Mayan revival architectural gem is to be awed by the vision of Andre Smith, artist and visionary who designed, created, and formed the cohesive buildings after chosing the theme he felt expressed an interesting melding of the warm Florida climate with his creativity. We return often, always with those visiting the area. Hopefully, after enjoying the unique design...

Check out this unexpected gem on the campus of the art museum. Lots of donated items tell the history of the local telephone system.

Small But Interesting Museum

Started as an artist's colony in 1937, the Maitland Art Center continues to exhibit works of contemporary art. The building itself is fairly small so the exhibits are limited in size. The architecture of the building itself is unique and described as "Mayan Revival". In addition to exhibits, the museum offers art instruction, as well. It is a National Historic...
