Gourmet/Fusion Restaurant on the Commons

If you walked into Madelines from the Ithaca Commons, you would think that you were in San Francisco, LA or New York City. Not only does it offer an eclectic menu, complete bar, fabulous wine list, it also has a dessert bar to kill for. The restaurant is large and conveniently located at State and Aurora streets at the gateway to the Commons. I always stop by Madelines whenever I visit Ithaca. There are some seats outside where you can watch the foot traffic on the Commons, which is nice during the long summer nights. Even if you skip dinner, I would definitely sample the AMAZING desserts and have an espresso or drink.

Parking is not a problem, but I would definitely get a reservation any night with a holiday or that Cornell, Ithaca College or Ithaca High School have a reunion/graduation.

Dogs are welcome at the outer tables; however they request that guests with pets come during non-peak hours or on evenings when they are slow. This is supposed to be a fusion restaurant but I find it mostly confusing. I thought you were supposed to use different culinary influences to create new tastes but these guys just mix and match without putting any thought into it. The food is decent; it just doesn't flow from dish to dish.

On our first anniversary my husband and I went to madeline's for dinner. He couldn't have choose a better place then here. The food was excellent and so was the atmosphere. It was a warm cozy feel with a modern mood which to me is quite unusual because modern design is usually cold. But the'yve pulled it off very well in creating warmth and intimacy for their guests. One of Ithaca's best restaurants! In fact, it could easily thrive in cities like NY and San Francisco -- it's that good. The service is excellent, the wine list is also great, and the food is superb.
