After a few pulls on a premium single-malt Scotch, you may feel like digging into haggis, a Scottish blood pudding made of lamb organs and vegetables. Keep drinking that single-malt Scotch and you might want to start fighting for the honor of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. But nobody likes to be Pict on, so calm down and enjoy the breeze rolling through the raised floor-to-ceiling windows.

You might think you've stumbled into a pub from the Old Country when you walk through MacNiven's door. Darkened woods, quiet conversation, and the sound of clinking mugs raised in toasts set the mood. The imported beer selection is impressive, thanks to more than 15 Scottish beers (many of them on tap) and around 120 different brews. A fine assortment of single malt scotches is also available.... more

Parking along Mass Avenue is free, but can be tough to find during weekday lunch hours and weekends. Lots are available at New York and Alabama, or drive east of Alabama on Mass Avenue, where free spaces usually open up.

MacNivens is one of my favorite lunch or after work stops. They have a great selection of imports, and some awesome food. Get the French Dip! Brian Miller at 09:08 AM on 10/05/07

I have eat at Mac Nivens several times for lunch, one afternoon I had a problem with their sandwich and told the server the owner/cook (Stewart) came out. He was very rude and called me the B word. I will never eat here again.

A group of friends met for dinner. The server was delightful and the food was good. When another group of friends arrived to join us, the hostess very rudley told them they were not welcome. When a member of our party tried to talk to her the hostess and manager called her a bxxxx. We were talking to some people at another table and were told we weren't allowed to talk to anyone at other... more

Scotch Egg Mr. Bond? by Brion R. at InsiderPages

This popular Mass Ave pub/restaurant is the place to go for a rare selection of beers and the ONLY place in town I know where you can try Scottish food. Beer may bring you in but the scotch eggs, haggis on bread (order extra bread) and their beef stew will keep you coming back. They also have a variety of more standard fare and bar food. Safe to say it is THE BEST Scottish themed pub/restaurant... more
