I've been to the Rep for The Flying Karamazov Brothers and The Reduced Shakespeare Company's Complete Word of God Abridged, and I have to say it is the most comfortable, intimate theater of its kinds. Everyone is very friendly and they just seem to book really good productions. Ticket prices are very reasonable.
The San Diego Repertory Theatre is a great theatre to see new, upcoming big hits, as well as upcoming big flops. You wont find Broadway type musicals at this theatre, instead you will find the upcoming works, independent works, and new hit works. This theater is known for staging ethnically diverse shows-- I think that's how they get a lot of their funding. It's refreshing to see a big city theater that's not playing the Fantasticks or some Broadway standby- this is the place to see new work.
