We were on time for our reservation, and we were shown to a decent inside table. We were given menus and a wine list. We were asked about drinks; all were delivered promptly. Our server (30-something, female, auburn hair in a bi-level cut) came over to answer a few menu qs. We ordered the bean soup and the scallop appetizer. They arrived quickly. The scallops were the best we'd had in LA -- tender, smoky, perfect and yowza-great hazelnut crunch on top. The soup was acceptable. We were fairly satisfied, a little intrigued, and ready to be happy. That's when it got bad. Our previously attentive server went AWOL. She never checked drink levels, never checked back on main courses or desserts, and even wandered back to our cup-less table about ten minutes after we'd finished dessert to offer us coffee. We were like, "Huh? Are you going to pour it into our hands?" The entrees were boring and onion- or fat-drenched. This restaurant was rated #1 by Los Angeles magazine a few weeks ago. WHAT??? When I ordered my entree, I asked the server to recommend a favorite. She said that I should choose the salmon. It was terrible. No balance, just fish and onion. My husband's short ribs were mainly cheap fat. After being ignored for about 40 minutes (my entree went back almost completely uneaten with no comment), we ordered dessert. We had the panna cotta. It was tolerable -- a nice brulee effect over the top. Lovely fresh fruit and candied ginger accompanying. Horrible combination of champagne and some kind of orange essence as a floater -- tasted like orange pop from a junior high soda machine. If you would like to spend $200 or so to be ignored and eat so-so food, please visit Lucques. If you would like a terrific meal , go a few doors down to Sona. We were there two weeks ago and couldn't have been more pleased with the eloquent, exciting menu and crazy-attentive service. I recommend Lucques for a glass of wine and the scallop appetizer at the bar. Nice fireplace. Gaze a bit, then leave.

With its classic décor and fresh, California cuisine, Lucques is a quintessential L.A. dining experience. The atmosphere is as warm as the La Brea Bakery bread that arrives before every meal. Brick walls and leather booths fill the interior; the garden patio consists of foliage and white linen tables. Owners Suzanne Goin (A.O.C.) and Caroline Styne pride themselves on Lucques’ flavorful,... more

Before Caroline Styne and chef Suzanne Goin opened the very hot A.O.C., this restaurant was where the It crowd went for contemporary Cal-Med cuisine and high style. Actually, that still holds true today. On starry nights, we seek out the high-walled patio in back; still, whether or not there's a chill in the air,the room—with two leather sofas sitting in front of a fireplace—is as welcoming as... more

The Scene This converted carriage house, once the abode of famed silent film star Harold Lloyd, welcomes with a sleek California ski lodge feel. Weathered brick, exposed wood beams, a prominent, wood-burning fireplace, a cozy bar and a lovely canvas-draped patio all create a homey, upscale vibe. Lucques is an olive, not Angelina's new baby, and goes with almonds and gourmet dipping salt for a start. Phenomenal chefs always impress. French-kissed Cali comfort specials for palate snobs. Patio is gorgeous. Tiny bar makes you want to arrive early for Devil's chicken and stay late, joining in the merry din over one more half of red. Grand-slam for letting sugar daddies or rich cougars... more

Almonds, olives, butter and fleur de sel an expensive French sea salt Few food lovers in LA havent heard of Lucques , run by Suzanne Goin recent winner of two James Beard awards --a massive honor in the culinary universe and Caroline Styne. What can I say, Lucques continues to amaze. The location is nice, the ambience is relaxed and the food is just perfect. I ordered a fish dish which was so flavorful, probably the best fish dish I have had in years. The waiter was not pushy at all. The hostess could have been more welcoming but oh well, the food makes up for it. A perfect place for true fine French cuisine.

this is a wonderful place top eat at! I went on a Sunday ans they have a cheaper menu because it's a set dinner but it was really good. It was way better than i expected. Everything was great from the food to the interior design but the only flaw is that it is a little expensive but it's worth the splurge.

Suzanne Goin is the best of the best!!

The food is perfectly executed and the decor is simple and understated but warm & inviting. My favorite time to go is Sunday, when the Supper is anything but ordinary. Truly LA's best restaurant!!!
