Fresh and Healthy Mexican Food

Review Rating
Loteria is a powerhouse of tasy and healthy Mexican food. They don't pile on the lard, guac and sour cream. Instead, Loteria cooks in a low-fat and authentic way. Most of the food is a-la carte, so you wind up ordering something basic and select the meat, beans, etc. Definitely get the moles, particularly the chiliquiles with mole rojo or negro--fine for a breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Yummy Mexican food

This stand at the Farmers Market is minimal. They have an array of savory stewed meats like puerco pibil and chicken mole that you can have served in tacos, burritos and other assemblages. They do not serve Mexican-American style fare with heaping wads of cheese on everything. Their breakfasts are recommended, especially their chilequiles - a platter big enough for two.

The Loteria Grill has the best Mexican food, hands-down. Here you will find traditional recipes without loads of cheddar cheese and refried beans. (The term "Mexican food" can be misleading -- real Mexican food isn't as greasy.) It's a great place to take family and friends.

I haven't tasted one dish that I don't like, and that's saying a lot! Some of my favorites include the calabacitas, papa ... more

Loteria Grill is awesome. I've lived in the southland my entire life and I've never come across Mexican food so tasty, so tantalizing to the tastebuds than this little spot at the 3rd Street Farmers' Market. Do not scoff or disagree until you've tried it. I've taken many a friend here, and all have been blown away by the fantastic food.

I am from Mexico City, born and raised and I was very frustrated that I couldn't find any good Mexican places in Southern California. I tried literally everything from the Spanish Kitchen, through the taco trucks passing by East LA and the Valley, and all of them disappointed me terribly.

When I first went to La Loteria I thought that it would be another "Americanized version" of Mexican food but ... more

I'd hardly call it Mexican.

I'm in agreement with the last review. Although I am not as saavy as to the origins of dishes and such, I can safely say that on its best day, La Lotteria doesn't come close to even the smallest hole in the wall in the "real L.A." The farmers market is always highly overated and overpriced however, so I didn't have many expectations to begin with, just an apetite and not enough time to go elsewhere ... more
