Danny Edwards’ 18-seat, lunch-only barbecue joint continues to smoke up fine 'cue, including brisket sandwiches, burnt ends and ribs. The sauce is ketchup-based and Texas-style, and meats are seasoned after they are smoked. And his pit beans are cooked in the smoker alongside the meats.

Whenever my 2 brothers come to town, Lil' Jakes is a must stop. I live downtown and love having such a yummy place to eat so close. In three days, I went to Jack Stack, Gates and Lil' Jake's. Of the three, Lil' Jakes was the best. I went in the morning, right after they opened, and was served the best brisket and pork shoulder.
