Pop in anytime for a café au lait at the elegantly fluted tin-topped bar, or arrange a luncheon rendezvous for some creamy sweet garlic soup with asparagus and poached egg. Where was the basset hound? He should have been sitting on the banquette next to his master, begging for charcuterie: a morsel of cured veal tongue, a sliver of silky-sweet chicken liver. And what of the terrier that belonged under the bar, curled at the feet of her mistress who sits sipping coffee, ignoring a complimentary madeleine, blowing smoke and dreaming of last night's indiscretion? In Short This tidy French cafe--named for the pitchers from which wine is poured--is a casual, sophisticated neighborhood place to bring friends to eat and drink well. Dishes include the country-style pork pâté (with honeyed walnuts and grain mustard), a simple plate of earthy local tomatoes, tapenade and warm goat cheese or sturgeon surrounded by a delicate corn-fennel broth. The wine list ... more

Seattle seems to have a thing for French restaurants. They're all over the place in this city, with a surprising number clustered around Pike Place Market. Le Pichet is one of my favorites. The name is French for "pitcher" and refers to the traditional ceramic pitchers used for serving inexpensive French wines. This should clue you in to the casual nature of the place, the sort of spot where you can ... more

Best Chicken I've Ever Had

A friend took me here on a 'date' a couple weeks ago, and the roasted chicken was AMAZING. Probably the best chicken I've ever tasted. I've been having cravings for it ever since. We were seated promptly (it was pretty empty on a Tuesday evening) and it was nice to not have people crowding us. I will definitely be coming back here again, just for that chicken!

Pros

+ Chicken!

This is not a fancy spot but we have had two good meals here and we like sitting at the bar and people watching. Similarly both times we were there I saw people alone, sitting at the bar eating and looking quite comfortable. Some of the food we had was great but my fish was overdone and we had 3 good glasses of one and one bad one where it seemed as if the bartender was just trying to offload it ( ... more

Le Pichet is a nice place, if you could ever get any service. With the 3-4 servers there on a Friday night, seems like they should be able to get things done. The food is good, but with all of the other great French places in the city, I wouldn't bother with Le Pichet.

Pros

+ $4 pastis

Cons

- service
