This mild-mannered Mexican watering hole in the heart of downtown has been transformed into one of the hottest new clubs in the city, attracting an ever-growing gaggle of Eastside hipsters to their wildly popular weekend party nights, like Thursdays where you can get bent on Three Dollar Dewars. But its the Friday night Punky Reggae Party where La Cita really catches fire. The Dub Club and...

Transforming a traditional Mexican bar into a Downtown dance club might seem next to impossible, but the new owner of this decades-old watering hole is famous for his miraculous makeovers, having turned Short Stop, an Echo Park cop bar, into a haven for hipsters on the Eastside. Envision an opium-den disco: Mexican lanterns soak the club in warm, sensuous red light; hypnotic, seizure-inducing...

It's amazing what a kitschy remodel and influx of KCRW-listening Westside hipsters can do. The interior still feels refreshingly cheesy, with ceiling-strung Christmas tree lights, red circular booths and mirrored artwork hanging throughout the bar and dance floor. Red lights and tiki-style lanterns lend an intimate shade of light to Heineken-ordering faces and disgruntled locals displaced by...

We met some interesting characters and one of my friends hooked up. A good...

A couple of friends took me here, I had been my it a number of times in the past but always wrote it off as a some dirty downtown LA bar filled with gangsters so I never went in. Turns out I was totally wrong. This place rocks.
It's a cool place with regular people and not filled with the "I'm so cool" Hollywood types nor the "I live on the Westside" snobs. They play different music...
