Tucked behind a tall bamboo fence, Koi would be nondescript if not for the flashbulbs of paparazzi lurking outside. It’s become a young Hollywood favorite for its homey atmosphere and its easy menu of Japanese small plates and sushi (crispy rice topped with spicy tuna is the house favorite). A table in the back patio is most desirable (probably because you can look into the rest of the restaurant ... more

Celebs and trendoids vastly outnumber sushi purists here. The sexy, understatedly exotic design includes several intimate spaces, both indoors and out -- surely this is positive feng shui. The buzzing crowd indulges in well-executed dishes such as crispy rice topped with spicy tuna, Kobe beef carpaccio with crispy shiitake mushrooms and yuzu vinaigrette, and sesame-crusted lobster tail. This Japanese-inspired restaurant—slick and sultry, lined with bamboo, accented by flickering candles and fireplaces—is most notable for its crowd, perpetually swarming with Ashtons and Demis. Luckily, the food pleases as much as the scene bustles. Glistening, clean-tasting sushi is the centerpiece, but the tapas-like small dishes are fun for tasting and sharing (while sipping premium sake, of course ... more

The Scene Guarded by towering bamboo spikes, this sprawling La Cienega space houses four dining rooms, a patio with a glowing fireplace, a lounge and a bustling sushi bar. A chic Asian theme is accented by crimson hues, dark-wood beams and Buddha statues. Couples fill tables in candelit dining rooms, while decked-out singles sip sake and size up the action on the patio. The Food ... more

I'm a sushi lover. Their fusion cuisine is good and can be compared to Blowfish Sushi. I had a great dinner and the dishes kept coming. The service was fast and super friendly. This is a hot spot and great to come with a large group or on a date.

Best restaurant in LA, if not the whole country

This is hands down my favorite restaurant ever. The food and drinks are OUTSTANDING, and the service is attentive. The prices are outrageous but you get what you pay for. I highly reccomend the Dragon Roll (a must have for sushi lovers), Lobster Tail, Rock Shrimp Tempura, the Spicy Tuna with Crispy Rice, and the Kobe Beef. There is a reason celebrities frequent this place! I would come here every ... more

AMAZING Sushi

Koi is my absolute FAVORITE. The food is to die for, the atmosphere is soo beautiful and the whole dining experience is above and beyond what I could have ever expected. The great thing about this place is that it is not a stuffy restaurant, but the quality of the food and service is of that stature.
My favorites are the creamy rock shrimp and the crispy rice, but everything is pretty much outstanding ... more

Fishy sushi, tasty cocktails

Great atmosphere, sub-par sushi. If your going, just grab drinks. The sushi is expensive, which is ok when it is good, but this was not. The portions are really small, and the fish does not taste fresh. The waiter claimed everything on the menu (which is really small) was great. We overheard him saying that not many people order sashimi, and recommending california rolls. This is not meant for ... more
