We love this restaurant! The sushi is fabulous. My favorite is the eel -- luscious and fatty and full of flavor. Service is friendly and prompt. Be sure to try the frozen kahlua creme brulee for dessert.
It was my first tine and I thought it was one of the better sushi restaurant experiences I've had in the DC area. My guest and I enjoyed various salads. My waiter helped me
The food was excellent and the microbrewed Japanese beer prepared for Kaz was especially excellent.
Thank you. I recently moved from the west coast where good sushi is easier to come by than in DC. This place reminds me of home.
Traditional Japanese cooking is combined with often inspired improvisations ("freestyle Japanese cuisine," in the words of chef-owner Kaz Okochi) at this serene location. For a first-rate experience, sit at the sushi bar and ask for whatever is best—you're in good hands, but the unique arrangements on the regular menu, from tuna-with-almonds to salmon-and-mango, are just as memorable. It's not...
Japanophiles give props to the "classical and innovative" sushi and "creative" small plates at Kaz Okochi's World Bank bistro; "yes, it is pricey" – except at lunch, when "hearty" bento boxes offer "terrific value" – and sure, the "sterile" decor could use an "upgrade", but most feel the "pristine" fish and "great" service more than "compensate."
Kazuhiro (Kaz) Okochi defined the art of sushi in DC when he was at Sushi-Ko, and it’s easy to see why: his knife cuts are clean and his fish pieces look like sculptures. At Kaz’s own sushi bar, patrons can dig into a variety of classics, offbeat rolls and assorted specialties. Check the daily list for whimsical items such as the shrimp with salsa. If Kaz himself is working the sushi bar, the...
Variation on a theme of sushi. Pure artistry keeps minds and tongues guessing. Fish as microsculpture—purplish seaweed garnish, painted dribbles of power sauce, exotic fruit zest. Seasonal catch from New Zealand to Norway. Dead branches woven into backlit frames mimic autumnal silk painting, adds corporate air. Dating couples hold aphrodisiacal morsels between chopsticks, Japanese family camps...
Amiable chef/owner Kazuhiro ("Kaz") Okochi introduced Washington to sushi long ago, at a restaurant called Sushiko . Since 1999, Kaz has run his sushi bistro in this handsome town house. Aficionados vie for one of the six chairs at the bar to watch Kaz and his staff do their thing, especially at lunch, when fellow diners are likely to be Japanese men in Washington on business and young...
I adore Kaz! The service is wonderful and the sushi is by far the best in the District! Best in the city..
Just came back to my office from lunch alone at Kaz Sushi. I walked by this place and went in impromptu. I was able to get a nice table immediately around 1pm, and the place is pleasant and lively, almost full. So far so good....
Always have great service, our favorite sushi place, presentation is beautiful!!! My favorite sushi place..
My meal at Kaz Sushi Bistro was a superior experience that confirmed my hunch, as well as other reviews, of this establishment. The ambiance was inviting and polished with a wait and sushi staff (complementary aperitif from the sushi chef) that are charming and personable...

BISTRO is a small restaurant that serves moderately priced meals in a casual setting. Originating in Paris, bistros nowadays are often associated with nontraditional cuisine. Chef Kaz named his restaurant Sushi Bistro to reflect its relaxed atmosphere and his own approach to Japanese cuisine, with his emphasis on elegant simplicity and the harmonious blend of old and new.
Asian: Kaz Sushi Bistro, a modern bistro, dishes sushi with a twist. Chef Kaz Okochi, originally trained as a fine artist, brings an artistic sensibility to his cuisine. While he maintains a repertoire of classic sushi rolls, he also experiments, creating such delicacies as sake-poached scallops with lemon-cilantro dressing or eggplant carpaccio. Diners may order individual rolls from the a la...
