I have eaten at John Harvard's many times and have never encountered any of the problems the previous poster has written about.
The beer is always good and the food is on par with any large chain restaurant (Chijis, TGI Friday's, Applebees).

We had extremely poor service at this restaurant in the bar area, we had to wait at least 30 minutes to be served one beer, with only about twenty people in the bar. That is ridiculous, then when our tip did not meet the bartenders expectations (we didn't tip wonderfully, we tipped about 10%, because the service was so horrible) we were asked by another bartender to not return to the bar. When I travel I make a habit of checking out the local brewpubs. I had about 45 minutes to spare so I stopped in.
