Help us make it rightAfter finding immense success with more than 40 restaurants in Japan, Shigemi Kawahara (a.k.a. the Ramen King) decided to open up a New York City store in 2008. Every Ippudo location has its own original ramen type, and New York is no exception. The ultra-hip decor is original and modern, with Japanese script adorning the walls. Try the ramen , of course, and the pork belly. Sake, shochu and...
This chain’s first foray outside of Japan, Ippudo in the East Village serves up an array of comforting Japanese fare. But the reason most Japanese food cognoscenti come here is for the tonkotsu ramen, a rich and complex pork-flavored broth with nicely cooked thin, al dente noodles. There are three kinds, all of which vary in depth and spiciness. Other dishes---or, rather, their...
Crowds wait hours for the ramen noodles at Ippudo, the first American branch of the Japanese chain, and if you ask, loyal patrons will say it's all about the rich, pork-based broth—there is a vegetarian version available but it lacks the depth of flavor. Those really in the know, though, make sure to order the sleeper hit appetizers like the peppery chicken wings or the pork buns. It's not a...
Yeah, we’ve had ramen infatuations before—Setagaya, Minca, Momofuku. This time, though, it’s forever. Ramen King Shigemi Kawahara brings super-authentic, super-addictive pork broths to the E.V. Get the velvety classic, or even better, the red, garlicky Akamaru Modern. Exterior looks like remainders from a lumberyard, signals playful interior. Bamboo tree curling above open kitchen. Wait forever...
This ramen spot doesn't just noodle around. There are other dishes on the menu, too, like grilled pork belly, shrimp tempura and a tofu salad. But the main attraction is the bowl of house-made...
You must wait, sometimes a lot, but it's worth all the time, raw octopus blew my mind had never tried before, big time said yes, the ramen soup is superb! Absolutely must go in New York, no doubt. the place is also very nice.
Worth the hype, and the wait! Came here at 5:15 just 15 minutes after opening and had to wait for an hour and a half to get a bar seat. The signature ramen was well flavored and the pulled pork was cooked to perfection. Servers was typically obnoxious as you would expect from a NY eatery such as this. Ambience was authentically Japanese and they ensure you leave within 2 minutes after you're...
Worth the hype! Good luck getting in her on a weekend, but the weeks ignites aren't usually too bad...but the ramen is amazing! The staff is so fun and greets everyone as they come in. Fun for date night!
Wait times can be a nightmare for groups of more than 2, but its worth every minute of the wait. Try the pork buns and the original ramen bowl
Overall, this was a satisfying and refreshing drink on a hot day when maybe the last thing you would want to drink is rich, thick bloody mary. The flavors were light and the spice just right. I give Ippudo’s Bloody Marichan a 4 Celery Stalk rating.

The bar serves a selection of 35 sakes in addition to beer, wine and spirits.
There are no ramen selections, and very little on the rest of the menu, for vegetarians.
Choose between two ramen bars, one with love seats, another with stools for singles and larger nooks for groups.
