As soon as you open the Hotel manning house doors you are transformed into the early 1900's.first thing that you notice is a very old hotel cash register,intricate wood designed stair case, the old glass windows,heavy doors,very high ceilings and all the decor that comes with the period. The property has character, charm and a great location on the banks of the Des Moines river. The two rooms that face the river are higher priced than the other but well worth it. Historic & interesting, no real frills but clean; would stay again

There is the main historic hotel that has been restored to a period appearance. The bedrooms are all upstairs & are decorated with beautiful old style beds/furniture and fabrics. I am not sure that all have private baths. No elevator so you have to be able to climb that big staircase. Not frilly/fancy/upscale but felt very original to the 1800s....
