It definitely smells that way - I would go with any other hotel before staying here. Although it has been designed to give it a high class feel (and the room service costs like you are staying at the Waldorf in IA) it has a funky smell and definitely feels old once you get to your room. This place has been a downtown Des Moines landmark for many years. Although the place is very old, it offers some updated amenities. The corner suite is very spacious but they don't have too many. Bar/restaurant are very nice too.

We stayed here for the Iowa Cubs package which was great. The shuttle was very convenient. We all woke up with sore backs, though, and we even paid extra for a suite.
