Daniel Burnham designed this building, a harbinger to the modern day skyscraper, in 1894 with partners John Root and Charles Atwood. Burnham's oft-quoted slogan, "Make no small plans," most certainly applies to the hotel that now resides in the building and bears his name. What this small hotel lacks in size it more than makes up for in charm and grace. The terra-cotta facade positively gleams....

The Scene Housed in the refurbished, 105-year-old Reliance Building (once home to Carson Pirie Scott), the hotel oozes yesteryear charm, from metal elevator grills and marble walls to Florentine glass on office-turned-guest-room doors--many of which still have their original mail slots. Really enjoyed it! Would definitely come back!
Pros
+ location, staff is very nice
Stayed here last weekend. It's a nice little hotel. Rooms are small and so is lobby, but it is quaint and also right off of State Street. Easy walk to Daley Plaza, and not a bad walk to the Mag Mile either. Room was clean. They had a complementary wine reception from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
Biggest complaint is that the bellhop staff seemed to be grossly overworked, as it was taking a long time...

I love this mid-loop hotel located at the corner Washington and State, just steps from the El and lots of shopping. This rennovated boutique hotel has smallish rooms, but luxurious beds and bedding. Their evening complimentary wine service is terrific.
