Help us make it rightYou know an authentic restaurant is a good bet if its patrons are largely locals or of the region and nationality of that particular cuisine. The Habenero Mexican Cafe does great on both counts, although Hispanics tend to outnumber the Austin locals. The servers are bilingual and efficient, to the extent of advising you on the gorditas to rating the spice in the salsa. The huevos rancheros and...

This is the spot for breakfast in Austin. The breakfast tacos is amazing.
This place gets 5 stars because they have some amazing chips/salsa and the prices are great. The dinner plates are huge; I tried the Combo #1 (enchilada, beef taco, and bean tostada). We walked out with a bill around $50, which included 5 entrees and 3 beers. Definitely will return to try more off the menu.

A satisfying kick in the taste buds awaits diners at this authentic Mexican cafe. In fact, it's safe to say that if you can't take the heat, you should probably stay out of Habanero, where even the fresh salsa packs quite a punch. Perfectly-battered chile rellenos, crave-worthy gorditas, fajitas with mesquite-grilled chicken and arguably the best breakfast tacos in Austin -- it's all delicious,...
Save Money: The daily lunch specials daily cost $5.50. Monday, for example, offers the chicken fajita plate with rice and beans. This heaping plate of chicken is nearly impossible to finish.
The Extras: The restaurant caters events and offers delivery for patrons that live in a 10-15 minute radius from their doorstep.
When to Go: Habanero serves breakfast all day, so any time is a good time to try a migas platter. They close early during the week, so check ahead.
