Chef-owner Michael Amr has a magical Cajun-Creole touch, plunking Louisiana down in the heart of Austin. Delicious fare includes the chicken and sausage gumbo, rainbow trout stuffed with a shrimp-crawfish filling and the hearty pork tenderloin. The oysters Rockefeller and the bread pudding are exemplary.

In Short Gumbo's brings in the rapidly expanding downtown crowd. Business types and older couples dominate here, and seem right at home in the swanky surroundings of the historic Brown Building, with its high ceilings, green velvet curtains, mosaic tile floors, art deco posters and lighting fixtures. Old-style Cajun predominates. Blackened catfish is swathed in crawfish etouffee....

The historic downtown Brown building where LBJ once had an office remains revived with the addition of Gumbo's. Lofty ceilings, Art Deco touches, mosaic tile floors, and polished service remind us of a charming French Quarter restaurant in the Big Easy. So does a menu rich with Creole-Cajun classics. Our ideal weekday lunch is a steaming bowl of soulful chicken and sausage gumbo paired with the...

When it come to culinary geography, Texas is mostly associated with Mexico and the West (all that meat, don't you know). Here's a nice reminder that the state also borders Louisiana. The menu tends more towards casual Cajun than fancy Creole, but no matter what...

This place has THE best cajun food in town! Everything I have tried has been great! The fish is amazing and perfectly cooked. Jambalaya is wonderful.
If you want one of the best desserts EVER, go for the Chocolate Bread Pudding! You'll think you died and went to heaven.
The prices are pretty high, but considering the quality, it's worth it for special occasions!
