Virginia State Parks deserve their excellent reputation -- nowhere is this more true than at Grayson Highlands and the adjacent Mt. Rogers natural area. Walk part of the Appalachian Trail and see wild ponies, too. What could be more perfect?

I live about an hour from this heaven on earth. Weather permitting, I go 2-3 times a month and always come back with a calmer attitude and spirit. The views are marvelous, the hiking easy or strenuous based on your current needs. I have taken all the special people in my life here for years.

The park is a popular spot for festivals in the spring and Fall. The most popular is the Wayne Henderson Festival in June! Park is located on Mt. Rogers, the highest peak in Virginia! The wild ponies roam free! Horse trails and shelters are available, as well of hiking trails, picnic areas, and a campground. Very nice place to camp...

We have been to Grayson Highlands State Park many, many times. If you are looking for trails for young and old, beautiful scenery and quiet...this is the place for you.
There is a minimal usage fee, but the trails to the Pinnacles and other aspects of the park are amazing. We enjoy taking our young son who loves the wild...

Love the Ponies

This was a beautiful park, well maintained, with great amenities. We hiked the Rhododendron Trail in search of the wild ponies that live in the park and found them about a mile in. The views are amazing! There is a bit of a drive in, but even that wasn't too bad as we enjoyed seeing more of the Virginia countryside....
