Captain Nemo, an imperious cat and unofficial doorman who boasted an international fan club here, regrettably passed away in 2005. Pip is the new feline-in-residence at this homey, family-run B&B, which some have cheered as a great spot for families looking for accommodations in the Union Square area. Built in 1913 as a hotel, the four-story Edwardian has front and back bay windows. The...

Hosts John and Renate run the friendliest hotel in town (more of a B&B really): a 4-story 1913 Edwardian charmer that’s bedecked with antiques, wicker and old photographs. It's 2 blocks north of Union Square and 2 blocks down (literally) from the crest of Nob Hill, with cable car stops at the corner for easy access to Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown. The city's theaters and best restaurants are also within walking...

This is the second time my mother and I have stayed at this hotel, and we love it! It reminds us of the wonderful European B&B's we have stayed in. For the area (walking distance to all major tourist areas), the price cannot be beat. The rooms are quiet, clean, beds are comfy, and we enjoyed our mornings with deliciously strong coffee, croissants, and fresh OJ-brought to our room by the...
