Golden Gate Hotel & Casino

Shark Aquarium inside Swimming Pool Area

Review Rating
What a great way to show off Yellow Tail Tuna & Sharks!

Huge swimming pool surrounding an all windowed aquarium with a swimming tube down the middle. Swimmers can slide down the enclosed tube thru the aquarium & watch the sharks swim around them.

The swimming pool, has lounge chairs cemented into the pool (so they don't disappear), all around the aquarium so you can sit in the pool & watch the fish swim.

Gorgeous pool area. Great way to watch the fish swim around you.

This spot was recently added to the list of historical places in Nevada, as well it should. It was the first hotel (still in existence) to be built in Las Vegas, and it is still going strong. In the 1950s a "modern" facade was added, which remained until the inauguration of the Fremont Street Experience. Then the hotel was restored to its original charming appearance (circa 1930s), replete with... more

In Short Going by the slogan "Where Las Vegas Started and the Fremont Street Experience Begins!," the Golden Gate has seen the city grow up around it. This historic 106-room hotel originally opened in 1906 as the Hotel Nevada and was home to the city's first telephone. Their bargain shrimp cocktail--first served in 1959--remains popular to this day. Guest rooms feature cable... more

Like stepping back to the 1950's. Its clean, with friendly people who seemed to have grown into the place. It thankfully lacks what we have come to expect in the overaggressive adrenaline fueled new Vegas. (You wont be accosted by tip hungry bellhops getting in your face three times as you walk through the door at a strip casino) The rooms were smallish, quaint, but comfortable having a... more

Well, maybe it isn't really 5 stars, but it is one of my favorite casinos in Las Vegas. For true Vegas history, you can't beat this 100 year old casino. They have several antique slot machines on display, as well as numerous photos of a very early Las Vegas.

I have never stayed in the hotel, nor have I eaten in the restaurants, but for small-dollar gambling and historic charm, this place is... more
