In Short The sleek, modern interior of this brick bistro draws an eclectic crowd, just like the neighborhood. Dramatic floor-to-ceiling white window trim against midnight walls frame the downtown skyline. The short menu covers France, Thailand and New Zealand. Popular starters are hot squash fritters with buttermilk cream. Savory entrees include sweet-plum pork with mashed potatoes and mustard ... more

Contrary to popular belief, there is no German food at Germantown Café, a notable north Nashville neighborhood bistro. In a lucky space a few streets behind downtown, the windows offer an expansive and illuminated nighttime view of the Capitol building, contrasting nicely with the intimate setting within. We enjoyed this place. Nice food selection, and inventive sides. Great wine list. There were some shady characters in the area as we were leaving but our actual dining experience was lovely

Pros

Don't let the bad reviews fool you Nashville diners! Germantown Cafe is one of the best there is. I have been dining there for years and I stop in for dinner, lunch or brunch at least once a month. I have never seen a restaurant more consistent with their service, food, and cocktails. For the folks that think there's not enough flavor, have you tried the Chef's New Orleans Shrimp dish? It is one ... more

It took the waiter about 30 minutes to get us our drinks. The salad was drenched and looked pitiful, as if it had fallen off a cliff, the lamb tasted like old goat, not lamb, the chicken prosciutto tasted mildly of fish ... in short one of the worst, .... no THE worst dining experiences I have had in Nashville in 4 years! I will never go there again!

Pros

+ ambience

Cons

- service, food

great service and atmosphere but bland food.

My wife and I had dinner this past Saturday at Germantown Cafe. The Cafe has a really intesting menu - a little bit of everything (that sounded good) plus some good southern appetizers (the fried green tomatoes were outstanding!). The atmosphere was "romantic" as advertized, the service was superb. Free valet parking was nice. Decent wine list and fair prices. Total tab for 2 was about $100 including ... more
