Outsider art finds a home--literally--in this Columbia City gallery.

The Experience Running a gallery from your living room might interfere with wandering about in your bathrobe but in terms of self-taught artists, it works. At least temporarily for Karen Light and Marcus Pina, whose passion for outsider art--also termed self-taught, naive, folk, "Art Brut," visionary and kitsch--surpasses their mundane desires for privacy. As the only Seattle spot dedicated to outsider art, it's chock-full of the tantalizing visions escaping from artistic minds. Though the art may appear childlike, it mirrors very grown-up notions that reflect real and imaginary worlds....

Finding a gap in Seattle's gallery scene, folk art enthusiasts Karen Light and Marcus Pina brought their passion home. Called folk art, outsider art, art brut and a number of other names, the work they show by artists including Annie Grgich and John Taylor has a raw edge that's non-academic but not necessarily unstudied. Don't neglect to say hello to Malcolm, Jet and Fliegen, the family pets.
