Welcome To the Franklin Café and Franklin Cape Ann. Our neighborhood restaurants are warm, friendly and inviting places. We serve the full menu in Boston until 1:30am every night and in Gloucester until 12:00am every weekend and every evening in the summer. We have great wines, microbrews on tap and a fresh twist on Modern American cuisine.

Cult, late-night neighbourhood café bar deep in south end where local chefs and waiters go to wind down after a night at the coalface - so it has quality too. It's more hip bar than cosy restaurant but that suits our nature, and we like their take on fresh fruit martinis, mojitos and whiskey cocktails, although they do dozens of beers and wines too. The food is hearty, gourmet-standard modern American ... more

This place has jumped to the head of the class by keeping things simple yet effective. (Its litmus: local chefs gather here to wind down after work.) Try anything with the great chive mashed potatoes and don't miss the double-thick brined pork chops. The vibe is generally more bar than restaurant, so be forewarned: it can get loud. Desserts are not served. Reservations not accepted. AE, D, DC, MC, ... more

The Scene A consistently cool crowd--does the South End know any other kind?--heads to this acclaimed hipster hangout to drink and dine the night away. After finding the restaurant, which can be a bit of a challenge (it's located on quiet, residential Shawmut Avenue), most patrons face a lengthy wait for one of the dining area's nine tables--no reservations are taken. A dark, stylish bar ... more

This late-night lounging spot has an elegant neighborhood feel. At the full-length bar sit witty regulars who spar with jocular bartenders. Large hanging mirrors can be used to keep tabs on newcomers in elevated booths. The unpretentious menu changes with the seasons. Smokey skillet roasted mussels and grilled corn on the cob are perfectly light fruits of the summer. Boston Bog and Satin Manhattan ... more

This is it: Ground zero for the assorted artists, academics, techies and entrepreneurs who ensure the South End remains the hippest neighborhood in town. The Franklin owes its status in part to the fact that it’s one of the few full-service restaurants whose kitchen stays open past 10 p.m. But only in part. After all, would the joint be jumping with off-duty chefs come midnight if the Contemporary ... more

The consistent quality of this restaurant makes it a popular, but crowded choice, so arrive early or be prepared to wait. The menu is creative, fresh, and inviting. The staff are attentive, friendly and professional. It is a high quality neighborhood place, not a destination for a relaxed lingering dining experience. Crowds waiting to eat lead to not so subtle pressure to finish up and leave.

This past weekend I was visiting Boston for 3 rd time, I always hear that this restaurant is pretty good, so we decided to try, we arrived at 7:00 pm, the place was pack, the host told me 30 to 45 minutes, I have a glass of Wine, very good attention by the barttender, the restaurant is very well decorate and located, like the lights and the services of the staff is class A, they really take care ... more

I love Franklin Cafe. I would even go as far as saying it is my favorite restaurant in Boston. Unfortunately, the last two times I have been there (twice since August 2007) the new wait staff has been a little less friendly than usual. Both of my parents and a lot of my friends are in the Service Industry, therefore, I have a lot of respect everyone in it.
What is the wait staff lacking? Personality ... more
