Inspired by a style called Opium Dream, this theater has a quasi-Arabian theme, from the statues that peer down on the audience to the intricate wrought-iron work on the staircase. This was the premier place to see movies in the Loop, and it later housed such live acts as Fred Astaire and Jimmy Durante. However, it fell into grave disrepair in the 1970s and was shuttered for good in the early...
Always a great show to see here. Gorgeous interior filled w/ Asian art is a draw. Grab a bag of Garrett's popcorn next door & bring it in!

I adore this theater. Classic, old, ornate, and a wonderful place to take in a show. Acoustics are fantastic, and, having sat in a variety of places, I can safely say there really isn't a bad seat...
How can I resist not giving 5 stars to this excellent beautiful theater. I had a chance to visit this theatre 2 weeks ago, as I was watching Stephen King's horror musical ghost brothers of...

The beautifully restored Oriental Theatre is part of the revitalized downtown theater district. The Ford Center houses mostly Broadway tours, and is managed by Broadway in Chicago.
The Oriental Theatre opened in 1926 as a movie house that also featured live performances. During the theater's heyday, stars like Judy Garland, Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, and the Three Stooges graced its stage. The first show at the restored stage was "Ragtime." The theater's seamless return to the North Loop may leave audiences forgetting it ever stood empty.
Always a great show to see here. Gorgeous interior filled w/ Asian art is a draw. Grab a bag of Garrett's popcorn next door & bring it in!
