This place gets points for its location, which is great. Columbus Ave is full of interesting shops and cute cafes (during the day, at least. I didn't expect the Europa Hotel to be a hostel, but thats really what it feels like. It's not very welcoming (the decor nor the staff) and the bathrooms are shared. The Europa is very sterile and is exactly what the phrase "no frills" was meant to describe. Guests should know that there is a no visitors policy after 9 pm. This place feels more like a hostel than a hotel. It is centrally located in the heart of North Beach, if you stand on the street right outside you can see the Transamerica tower and the Bay. This neighborhood is loaded with shops and restaurants, Little Italy is right down the street and Chinatown only a couple blocks away.

Hotel has rather good location (less than 15 min to Montgomery BART Station), near Little Italy and Chinatown, not far from Safeway (supermarket) and a lot of pizzeria/ Italian restaurants nearby. Room is rather spacious as for SF hotels/hostels; there are king-size bed, microwave, small refrigerator, TV, washstand in the room.
