A downtown institution where German-food lovers can feast on bratwurst, Wiener schnitzels, potato pancakes, and sauerbraten with red caggage. At lunch the menu includes additional American-style fare. On weekend night's there's liver dumplings, too. Only beer is served, but you can bring your own spirits. AE, D, DC, MC, V. Closed Sun. The city's only German restaurant is a cozy beer hall frequented more by locals than tourists. Perhaps this is because it gets upstaged or else overlooked in favor of The Rendezvous, the must-visit rib joint that shares the same building. I had seen this place on a past trip to Memphis when I was at the Rendevous BBQ place next door. I was only passing through town and thought I would try Erika's next time. Well, next time became 9/01/07 and it was closed, out of business. The sign in the entry way Thanked the people for 29 years of business. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis. I haven't been in a while, so I don't know if Erika still does all the cooking. Well worth visiting!
