The Proprietors of the 2 El Tiempos are the Laurenzo family. Our mother and father (and grandmother, grandfather and great grandmother and great grandfather) Domenic (Tommy) and Ninfa Laurenzo came to Houston in 1948 and started cooking almost immediately. Our family´s desire is to continue that tradition as best we can and to provide you with a very delicious and memorable Mexican food...
Wildly popular and wildly good, El Tiempo on Washington (there are other locations on Richmond and Montrose) is the go-to Mexican restaurant for socialites, families, singles (check out the swinging bar scene), and serious eaters. The place gets raves for its margaritas, fajitas, guacamole, green sauce, and the whopping, table-filling mixed grill, with beef and chicken fajitas, jumbo shrimp,...

El Tiempo Cantina Restaurant Review: The powerful margarita that made Ninfa's famous is served at the Laurenzo brothers' hotspot---and its popularity has never wavered. A vaguely mission décor, accented with giant sepia-toned prints of Mexican aristocracy, have a lot to do with the comfort level of the dining room. But regardless of the proud prices and the loud crowds, El Tiempo attracts the...

The Scene
Dusky lighting, chummy servers and enjoyable salsa tunes make you feel like you just landed in a classy, crowded border-town cantina. El Tiempo attracts a brisk, discriminating...
No competition really. Just one of the best food experiences in all of Houston. If you even enjoy spice the Tex Mex experience you will not be disappointed. Had beef filet and baby back combo fajitas with Durango sauce - OUTSTANDING!
What a neat place. Not only was the food extremely authentic Mexican food but so was the atmosphere. you truly think your across the border. Presentation and food quality are extraordinary. I saw one order come out by us with a hot coal bed underneath the food. You get your own fireplace and great meal. Chips, rice and all entrees...
This restaurant has several locations in the city, this one was recommended as "the best". They have valet parking. The food was delicious, great "do it yourself" guacamole (which I appreciated since I don't like garlic, great to have the choice to mix it up yourself). I had a flauta with brisket and a chicken taco. Huge portions. One in...
My second TeXMex experience in Houston and definitely no disappointment. Nice menu, and delicious food. Very good service. They don't take reservations for groups less than 10 people though. And after 8pm it was completely crowded. But for sure a place to come back.
A valet at the garage near The Water Wall suggested we come here for authentic Tex/Mex. The portions were huge and the waiters were friendly. We were filled up for the rest of the day.
Take a break from your everyday meals and enjoy scrumptious Mexican fare at the El Tiempo Cantina. The flavors are just right, the taste very authentic. The decor is beautiful and patrons are welcomed in a warm and rustic ambiance with wooden tables and pleasant lighting. You simply cannot miss out on their Beef Fajitas, Spicy Mexicana Shrimp and Piccaqueso tortillas. They have a special menu...
