Business Description from the Web
The Miracle Mile is better known for its varieties of museums than rock-and-roll possibilities, but the El Rey evens the score a bit as the go-to venue for bands too big for The Echo but not quite up to the Wiltern. Catch a steady stream of KCRW-approved indie-pop, backpacker hip-hop and the occasional top-40 act honing its live chops in a well-appointed Art Deco setting. But do your boozing...

The El Rey gives a glimpse of the art deco greatness that once blanketed the city's Miracle Mile district. Thankfully, the theater's never been gutted and still features a balcony with comfy couches and a rich red decor that harkens back to the pre-World War II era of flappers and talkies. You can catch just about anything here, from big-time rock bands and hip-hop outfits to the annual Velvet...

Tips About This Business
Street parking on Wilshire is free after 7pm, but if you're in a pinch, valet it in front of the theater or use the pay lot across the street and behind the Hollywood Video.
Live shows usually end early so the club can chase everyone out and fill it back up with a dance-club crowd.

Editorial Reviews from the web
Built in 1936 as a movie house, this indie music venue can pack in about 900 for standing-room-only shows in the atmospheric grand ballroom. A large bar anchors the back of the room,...

Another restored relic of L.A.'s old Art Deco movie theaters, this small venue holds about 1,500 for such performers as Mick Jagger and Little Feat. It offers upstairs and downstairs views of the stage, but plan on standing all night as there are usually no seats available.
Other Reviews from the web
I enjoy concerts at El Rey. It's the perfect size venue. Most importantly, the sound system is excellent. And the decor inside is awesome -- rich, classy art deco.
Pros
+ Great sound system
Cons
- parking
wanna have fun go somewhere slse. There are so many great places in LA you dont need to go to place where there are rules as where you can sit, drink, stand and walk.. Staff is rude. Its a complete waist of time

I've seen a couple good shows here, but what has gotten to me is the way the place is operated. The place has so many stupid rules that it can really take the fun out of the event you're attending. Tonight as I reached the ID check, I was told I would have to remove the gum from my mouth because there is no gum allowed inside the theater. Excuse me?! Inside the theater, along the edge of the...
