It is a hard claim to make in Asian restaurant rich New York but Dumpling Man on St. Mark's makes dumplings better than anyone else. They…

Dumpling Man serves dumplings in the classic northern Asian style. Some of the earliest writing about these dumplings dates back 1400 years to northern China. This popular dish was later introduced in Korea and Japan virtually unchanged. In fact, the names mandoo and gyoza are both phonic translations from the Chinese language. Cultures in southern Asia also picked up on this traditional dish,...

As the name suggests, Dumpling Man doles out fried or steamed little tasty dumplings. Choose your stuffing from chicken, pork, vegetables, calamari, or prawns and savor mouthfuls of bliss in this smallish eatery. The place is flooded by students, visitors, regulars, and others looking for a cheap place to eat, and boy, are they satisfied! The steamed pie and flan are also worth a shot. Rush...

Steamed or seared, the "scrumptious dumplings" at this East Village Chinese make for a "super-cheap", cash-only snack that's handmade "right in front of you" (a "show in itself"); many prefer to "stuff themselves" on the run since the premises "aren't much to look at."

It is a hard claim to make in Asian restaurant rich New York but Dumpling Man on St. Mark's makes dumplings better than anyone else. They range from traditional to exotic flavors. Dumpling places used to be the domain of Chinatown eateries, but not anymore. The North Asian style dumplings served here give the East Village reason to raise the dumpling flag here. It's a genuine feat and a place...

If this was some place other than a dumpling place I would give a mediocre 3 stars. However, for a place that is supposed to be specifically a dumpling place... sorry, I expect better than mediocre.

The dumplings had wrong proportions. Too much dough. And the meat inside was dense and not juicy... and mostly flavorless. So. Too much dough. Not good quality meat. Poor construction. And didn't...

Know Before You Go

Unless you stumbled in looking for an Italian fix, avoid the Marco Polo dumplings slathered in tomato sauce.

What to Drink

Try the red bean latte, a not-too-sweet finish of steamed milk and gooey beans. In the summer, the shaved ice is a treat.
