Business Description from the Web

This dimly lit hotel bar with wood-paneled walls and live piano music seems like the perfect place to launch an affair. The Scotch whiskey menu is extensive, and they claim to be the second bar in Chicago to have broken out the suds at the end of prohibition. Foodwise, there's an adequate selection of room-service-y bar-food offerings such as chicken fingers, salads, and sandwiches, with a few... more

Neither the menu nor the decor at this long-standing seafood restaurant has changed much since it opened in 1933. The rustic yet refined room inside the Drake Hotel still features red-checkered tablecloths, weather vanes, and stuffed fish. The menu includes standard appetizers like New England clam chowder, oysters Rockefeller, and raw oysters, along with the famous Bookbinder Red Snapper Soup... more

From the wainscoting in the wide hallways to the mail chutes and classic elevator doors, there are vintage delights everywhere, especially in the ornate lobby. Lounge lovers will enjoy the clubby, intimate Coq d'Or. Also on the arcade level are many high-end shops including George Mangel florists, Chanel, Georg... more

Lined with red-leather booths and low-lit for an incognito feel, this hotel bar is all class. Warm and sophisticated, the cozy environs are suited for relaxation and quiet conversation. Proud to have been one of the first Chicago bars to open its doors to guests after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the Coq d'Or maintains its long-standing tradition of service and elegance. The signature... more

The Scene Step into this dark, low-ceilinged room and step right back in time to a fancy '30s seafood spot. Dark wood walls are covered in nautical memorabilia, tables are clothed in red-and-white checks and career waiters are clad in sea captain's uniforms. Regulars hang at the oyster bar; the dining-room crowd is mostly suits, tourists and locals celebrating special... more

This place is beautiful from the outside, but some of the rooms are quite dated. The location at the north end of Michigan Ave, with the lakefront path and Oak Street beach steps away, is perfect.

Pros

+ Can't beat the locale

Cons

- It's old

Old fashioned. Just the way I like it

I always stey at the Drake when visiting the windy city. You get what you pay for.

One on the few classics that still stick out in a scenery with high-rises and busy streets.

Comfort and luxury.

Pros

+ Yes

Cons

- n/a

To much for a Drake

I was expecting so high class hotel, but it did have a funky old smell to it. Maybe they need to seal the brick walls from the rooms. I dont know, all i know is it was creapy. I rather have stayed at The W.

Pros

+ Historic

Cons

- To old and smelly
